Ecompost took part in the COMdeHORT project—an applied initiative led by IRTA and funded by the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda (DACC), together with European funds.
The project aims to spotlight and document notable experiences in decentralized composting and the use of compost in horticulture. Over two years, many practical examples have been collected and shared through technical workshops and demo visits. Ecompost was selected as one of the featured cases for our contribution to a more circular and sustainable organic waste management model.
COMdeHORT emerges in a context of environmental and agronomic challenges: rising fertilizer costs and declining soil health in the Mediterranean region highlight the importance of local composting. The initiative promotes practices that improve soil, conserve resources, and support responsible horticultural production.
Materials generated include a compilation of case studies, a practical farm composting guide, and audiovisual resources that promote compost reuse in horticulture.
We are grateful to have contributed to this project, which promotes shared knowledge and collaboration toward more circular agriculture.
